JOHANNESBURG - 2 MEN ARRESTED AT OR TAMBO AIRPORT AFTER HAVING SWALLOWED COCAINE

On Sunday afternoon, 13 November 2016, members of the Trans-National Investigation Team based at the OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA), intercepted and arrested two males, Ntombo Mambanzulu Mekuntima Benvindo, 44-years-old and Fernando Tomakiau, 41-years-old for allegedly dealing in drugs.

The two men were arrested after members of the team conducted a routine search on the two, who were travelling together. Upon searching the two men, they behaved suspiciously. X-rays revealed they both swallowed cocaine.



Benvindo was found to have swallowed cocaine weighing 605 grams, with an estimated street value of R181 500.00 and Tomakiau swallowed cocaine, weighing 705 grams, with an estimated street value of R211 500.00.

The two men were in transit from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo.

Both accused appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 November 2016 and both cases were remanded to 27 January 2017 for further investigation. The duo were denied bail.
